MICRONEEDLING WITH PRP
At The Aesthetic Lounge, the only FDA approved device for microneedling, Skin Pen, is used. The Skin Pen is a handheld microneedling device with individual, sterile needle head attachments. Microneedling is a procedure that uses tiny needles to create micro punctures in the skin. These micro punctures then allow the skin to begin the process of healing which in effect increases collagen and elastin production. Collagen and elastin are products in our skin which contribute to a healthy, full, and youthful appearance. As we age, collagen begins to decline. As collagen declines, we begin to notice fine lines and wrinkles appearing. Epidermal punctures promote collagen production and can help improve the skinโs appearance. Conditions such as acne scars, other types of scars, fine lines, texture concerns, pore size, skin laxity, and skin discoloration can all be improved with the microneedling technology. To offer the greatest benefit from microneedling, the procedure is paired with platelet rich plasma (PRP) utilization. This technique involves drawing a small vial of blood from the patient. Then the blood is placed in a centrifuge in order to separate the PRP from the whole blood. The PRP is then used as an adjunct while microneedling to synergistically promote faster healing and better collagen production.
