MICRONEEDLING WITH PRP
At The Aesthetic Lounge, we utilize the only FDA approved device for microneedling, Skin Pen. The Skin Pen is a handheld microneedling device with individual, sterile needle head attachments. Microneedling is a procedure that uses tiny needles to create micro punctures in the skin. These micro punctures then allow the skin to begin the process of healing which in effect increases collagen and elastin production. Collagen and elastin are products in our skin which contribute to a healthy, full, and youthful appearance. As we age, collagen begins to decline. As collagen declines, we begin to notice fine lines and wrinkles appearing with age. Epidermal punctures promote collagen production and can help improve the skin’s appearance. Conditions such as acne scars, other types of scars, fine lines, texture concerns, pore size, skin laxity, and skin discoloration can all be improved with the microneedling technology. To offer the greatest benefit from microneedling, we pair the procedure with platelet rich plasma (PRP) utilization. This technique involves drawing a small vial of blood from the patient. Then the blood is placed in a centrifuge in order to separate the PRP from the whole blood. The PRP is then used as an adjunct while microneedling to synergistically promote faster healing and better collagen production.
What to Expect at your appointment
At your appointment, we will discuss your skin concerns. We will do a quick medical history and skin assessment. A plan of care will be created that is completely tailored to you. We will assure your skin is clean and free of any makeup or dirt. We will then apply topical numbing cream to the areas to be treated. This takes about 15 minutes to ensure your comfort during the procedure. Next, we will draw a tube of blood and spin it in our centrifuge to obtain the PRP. Once the PRP is ready, we will cleanse your face again. Then we will begin by bathing your skin in your PRP and begin the microneedling treatment. The whole process takes about an hour. Your face will be red and may feel warm directly after the procedure. Redness and swelling decrease over the next 24—72 hours. Sun exposure should be avoided during this time. We will provide products for aftercare along with instructions.
What results should I expect:
The skin begins the healing process immediately. Skin looks better in one week and continues to improve by four weeks. It is recommended to have 3-6 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart each. This has proven to yield best results. After the 3 initial treatments, annual treatments are recommended to maintain results

PRE & POST CARE PATIENT INSTRUCTIONS MICRONEEDLING
Pre-Treatment Instructions:
Use your prescribed pre-treatment skincare regimen for 4-6 weeks prior to your appointment. We know medical-grade skincare preparation is critical to treatment safety and efficacy. Please understand that we may not be able to do your procedure without proper preparation for your own protection.
Avoid sun tanning, sun exposure of self-tanners for 2 weeks prior to your appointment
Discontinue topical retinols 7 days prior to your appointment.
Come to your appointment with no makeup on your face. We think you’re beautiful without it and we will just have to wash it off anyway Eye make-up is ok.
Post-Treatment Instructions:
Avoid sun and over-heating for 7-14 days after your treatment. Please be fastidious about using provided SPF.
Resume your usual skincare recommended by your aesthetician day 7 post-treatment. Retinol use may resume 7-10 days post-treatment.
Treatment Specific Notes:
Post Microneedling:
Redness will resolve in 1-2 days. Light flaking is not uncommon on day 3-4 but does not always happen. Results of microneedling are not visualized for 4-6 weeks and multiple treatments will be necessary for ideal results.
