Miradry-sweat reduction
Miradry
Sweat stops here
If sweating is a problem for you, you’re not alone.
miraDry is a non-invasive, FDA-approved procedure designed to reduce excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis) and odor. It uses microwave technology to target and eliminate sweat and odor glands in the underarms.
How it works:
- Microwave Energy: The procedure involves the use of controlled microwave energy to target and permanently destroy the sweat and odor glands in the underarms.
- Treatment Area: A handheld device is placed on the underarm, and it sends microwave energy into the skin. This energy is absorbed by the sweat glands, which are then heated and eliminated.
- Cooling System: During the treatment, a cooling system is used to protect the skin’s surface, making the procedure more comfortable for the patient.
Benefits:
- Permanent Results: Once the sweat glands are destroyed, they don’t regenerate, meaning the results are long-lasting.
- Minimal Downtime: Most people can return to normal activities shortly after treatment, though mild soreness or swelling may occur in the treated area.
- Safe and Effective: The procedure has been proven to significantly reduce underarm sweating and odor in many patients, often with just one treatment. Some people may need a follow-up session for optimal results.
- No Need for Surgery: Unlike other treatments for hyperhidrosis (like surgery or Botox), miraDry is non-invasive, meaning there’s no cutting or stitches involved.

What to Expect at your appointment
At your appointment, Brett will provide a thorough consultation, to assess if you are a good candidate for miraDry and adress any concerns you have about underarm sweating and odor.
Following the consultation, will be the actual treatment. Your underarm will be prepped and measured to ensure the microwave energy will be delivered precisely to the sweat glands. To ensure your comfort, a local anesthetic will be applied to the area to numb the underarms. This helps minimize any discomfort during the treatment.
You’ll be asked to lie down comfortably on the treatment bed with your arms overhead. The device will be applied to your underarm area, which emits the microwave energy. The device delivers controlled microwave energy that targets and eliminates sweat and odor glands. While the microwave energy is being delivered, a cooling system in the device protects the skin’s surface to keep you comfortable.
The entire procedure usually lasts about 1-2 hours, depending on the area being treated
What results should I expect
After the procedure, you may notice mild redness, swelling, or tenderness in the treated area. These effects are usually temporary and resolve within a few days.
Your results are immediate and permanent. Once the miraDry treatment eliminates the sweat and odor glands, they’re gone for good. The treatment is clinically proven to have an average of 82% sweat reduction. As with any aesthetic treatment, results and experience may vary.
Recovery
You can generally return to your normal activities after the appointment. However, it’s recommended to avoid strenuous physical activities for at least 24-48 hours to prevent excessive sweating and discomfort.
Some people experience mild discomfort, swelling, or soreness for a few days, but these side effects are generally short-lived and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers or ice packs.
PRE & POST CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Pre-Treatment Instructions:
Stop using antiperspirants and deodorants 24 hours before your procedure. These products may interfere with the treatment, and it’s important to allow your skin to be clean and free of any chemicals during the procedure.
Shave your underarms 48 hours before the procedure. This ensures that the treatment area is clean and that the provider can more accurately mark the area. However, don’t shave on the day of the treatment to avoid any potential irritation.
Wear comfortable, loose clothing to your appointment. You’ll be lying down during the procedure, so loose-fitting clothes will make it easier to access the underarm area and will keep you comfortable afterward.
Consult your doctor about medications: If you’re taking any medication (especially blood thinners or pain medications), let Brett know ahead of time. They may suggest stopping certain medications before the procedure, but don’t stop any prescribed medications without consulting your doctor first.
Prepare for aftercare: You’ll likely have mild swelling or soreness in your underarms after the treatment, so plan to have ice packs or over-the-counter pain relievers (like ibuprofen) ready to help with any discomfort.

Post-Treatment Instructions:
Manage Swelling and Tenderness – Expect mild swelling, redness, or tenderness in the treated area. These are common side effects that typically resolve within a few days. Ice packs: Apply a cold compress or ice pack to the treated area for 10–15 minutes at a time, especially during the first 24–48 hours, to help reduce swelling and discomfort. Over-the-counter pain relievers: You can take pain relievers like ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) or acetaminophen (Tylenol) to help with discomfort. Always follow the recommended dosage.
Avoid Excessive Sweating and Heat – Avoid intense exercise and activities that can cause excessive sweating for 24–48 hours after the procedure. This gives the area time to heal and prevents irritation. No hot showers, saunas, or hot tubs for at least 48 hours after treatment. Heat can increase swelling and sensitivity.
Gentle Skin Care – Keep the treated area clean and dry. Gently wash your underarms with mild soap and water. Avoid scrubbing or using harsh exfoliants on the area. Apply an antibacterial ointment morning and night daily for 1 week. Do not apply deodorant, antiperspirants, or any scented lotions for at least 24 hours after treatment to avoid irritation. Avoid shaving for about 7 days after the procedure to allow the skin to heal properly.
Monitor for Side Effects – Some common side effects include tingling, numbness, or changes in sensation around the treated area. These are typically temporary and should resolve on their own within a few weeks. If you experience any severe pain, unusual swelling, blistering, or signs of infection (such as warmth, redness, or pus), contact The Aesthetic Lounge immediately.
Resuming Normal Activities – Mild swelling and tenderness should resolve within a few days, and most people can return to work or their usual activities shortly after the procedure. Exercise: Resume light activities and gentle movement after 48 hours, but wait about 1-2 weeks before resuming intense exercise or sports.
Follow-Up Appointments – Post-Treatment Check: You may be asked to come back for a follow-up appointment to assess your results and ensure everything is healing as expected. Some people may need a second session for optimal results, but many see significant improvement after one treatment. Results Timeline: You’ll start noticing a reduction in sweating in the treated area within 1-2 weeks, with the full results becoming more noticeable after several weeks. The sweat reduction is usually permanent, but it can take time for the skin to fully adjust.
FAQ
Don't I need sweat glands?
While your body does need sweat glands to cool itself, your body has 2-4 million sweat glands-only about 2% are found in your underarms. Eliminating this 2% of sweat glands does not affect your body’s ability to cool itself. With miraDry, you will experience the many benefits of reducing sweat in the underarm area, but you will continue to sweat in other areas of your body.
How does it work?
miraDry uses thermal energy to create heat in the area where bothersome sweat and odor glands and hair follicles reside and safely eliminates them.
What results can I expect?
You can expect immediate and lasting results. Once the miraDry treatment eliminates the sweat and odor glands, they’re gone for good.
How many treatments will I need?
You can see results in as little as one treatment and optimal results with 2 treatments. However, as with any aesthetic treatment, Brett will determine the best protocol for your desired results.
How long does it take?
A treatment will generally last about 1-2 hours.
Is there any pain or downtime?
Most patients describe the procedure as painless with little to no downtime. Local anesthesia is administered to the underarms prior to the treatment for patient comfort. Most patients return to regular activity immediately. Exercise is typically resumed within several days. You may experience swelling, soreness, numbness and lumps/bumps for several days to few weeks. Results may vary.
Is it safe?
Yes, miraDry has been used in over 450,000 treatments worldwide with an excellent safety record. It’s also been cleared by the FDA to dramatically reduce underarm sweat in as little as one appointment.
Are there any side effects?
Some localized swelling, soreness, numbness and lumps/bumps will occur and typically clear within a few weeks. Some patients have short-term altered sensation in the skin of the underarms or upper arms, which gradually disappears. Results may vary.
